Jacob Onesti Accident Hatley, WI Obituary, Death – Family Mourns Beloved Husband and Father 

Jacob John Onesti, 38, of Hatley, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following a motor vehicle accident. His death has left his family, friends, and community grieving the loss of a devoted husband, loving father, and hardworking business owner whose greatest pride was the family he built with his wife, Rebecca.

Born on May 9, 1988, in Wausau, Wisconsin, Jacob was the son of Jim and Jenny (Goldsberry) Onesti. On June 21, 2014, he married Rebecca Szews at St. Florian’s Catholic Church in Hatley, beginning a family life that became the center of his world.

Jacob was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his loved ones. For the last 10 years, he took pride in owning and operating Onesti Custom Tile, a business he built through hard work and commitment. His close friend Matt Alwes played a special role in helping him get the business started.

Despite his professional responsibilities, Jacob’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He cherished his wife, Becky, and their two children, Levi and Cain. With Levi, he shared a love of baseball and riding bikes, creating memories that his family will treasure. Jacob also enjoyed the outdoors, particularly elk hunting, traveling, and camping with his family. Affectionately known as “the deer skinner,” he leaves behind a nickname that reflected a memorable part of his life.

Jacob is survived by his wife, Becky; children, Levi and Cain; parents, Jim and Jenny Onesti; siblings Josh Onesti and Alyssa Chroge and their families; his parents-in-law, Steven and Annette Szews; extended relatives; close friend Matt Alwes; and beloved pets, Gunnar and Boots. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Johnny Goldsberry, several grandparents-in-law, and his cousin Casey Duginski.

Funeral Arrangements

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at St. Florian’s Catholic Church in Hatley. Rev. Junabe Villapaz and Rev. Steven Weller will officiate, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until the service begins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions toward Jacob’s children’s college fund. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home in Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements.
