Chico High School Lockdown Today: Reports of Shooting Near Campus Remain Unconfirmed

CHICO, California — Reports of a possible shooting near Chico High School have raised concerns about campus safety, with questions circulating about whether the school was placed on a hard lockdown.

However, a shooting near the campus and a new lockdown on October 21, 2026, have not been confirmed by the available official information. The Chico Unified School District’s public announcements do not establish that the reported incident occurred today.

Chico High School has previously responded to security concerns. On February 3, 2026, the school entered a Hold Action Alert after the Chico Police Department received an anonymous tip about an alleged threat. According to the district, investigators determined that the threat was unsubstantiated, students and staff remained safe, and the alert was lifted at approximately 1:16 p.m. That earlier incident does not confirm the current reports.

The district distinguishes between precautionary alerts and a lockdown. A Hold or Secure alert may restrict movement while classes continue, whereas a Lockdown/Barricade alert is intended for an immediate threat on campus and requires students and staff to follow emergency safety procedures.

At this time, verified information about a possible shooting near the school, injuries, suspects, or the status of any current lockdown remains unavailable. Parents and students should rely on official communications from Chico Unified School District and the Chico Police Department rather than unverified social media posts.

Families seeking updates can visit the official Chico High School website or the district’s safety information page.

Disclaimer: This report distinguishes unverified claims from documented past incidents. It does not confirm that a shooting or lockdown is occurring today. Further details should be added only after confirmation from school officials or law enforcement.
