Thomas W. Spahr, 78, of Milford, Delaware, has been identified as the man killed in a single-vehicle crash earlier this week, according to an update from the Milford Police Department on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The fatal collision occurred Tuesday morning, October 13, at approximately 9:55 a.m. on South DuPont Boulevard, near Old Shawnee Road in Milford. Although searches may refer to the incident as a Route 1 accident, police reports place the crash on South DuPont Boulevard, also known as Route 113.

According to investigators, Spahr was driving a 2011 Cadillac SRX SUV southbound when the vehicle crossed the median into the northbound lane for reasons that remain unknown. The SUV continued travelling before striking a guardrail and leaving the roadway. It eventually came to a stop in a wooded area just north of Marvel Road.

Spahr was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while emergency personnel and investigators worked at the crash site.

The Milford Police Department’s Fatal Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities have not publicly established why the vehicle crossed the median, and the investigation remains ongoing.
