A serious stabbing incident in Quorn, Leicestershire, has come before Leicester Crown Court, where a jury has heard details of an alleged knife attack that left a BMW driver with a serious hand injury and a passenger with a stab wound to the chest. The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, outside the White Horse pub on Station Road in Quorn, near Loughborough. According to the prosecution, the driver had arrived with two friends and was sitting inside the BMW when the confrontation began. Prosecutor Gary Short told the jury that Cohen Barley, 23, allegedly approached the driver’s door, produced a knife and attacked through a partially open window. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was reportedly stabbed through the hand. The prosecution said further movements with the knife caused a minor injury to his stomach as he attempted to move away. The rear-seat passenger allegedly intervened and suffered a stab wound to the chest. The three occupants eventually escaped from the vehicle and ran up the road, with the defendant allegedly pursuing them while still carrying the knife. The court also heard allegations that Barley returned to the BMW and attempted to wipe his fingerprints from the vehicle before leaving the scene in a friend’s car. Emergency services attended, and the seriously injured driver was taken to hospital. The second victim sought hospital treatment the following day. Barley, of Hawthorn Road in Mountsorrel, is standing trial at Leicester Crown Court on charges including attempted murder, possessing a knife in public and causing grievous bodily harm. During a police interview, he reportedly claimed that the driver had previously threatened him and his family and had attempted to run him over. He also gave a different account of how the knife came into his possession. The prosecution disputes his account of events. The allegations are being considered by the court, and the charges remain allegations unless and until proven.
